Catechism assignments

5th & 6th Grade

In class the children were interested in what was in the chapters, so they read the first ten or so verses of Hebrews 11, and counted how many times "faith" was mentioned (it is known as the "chapter of faith").  We read the first part of Luke 15 to be reminded of the parable of the lost sheep. Then I summarized the lost coin and the lost son, so they understood why Luke 15 is "The 'Lost' Chapter."

We covered the rest of page 3 for Lesson 13, and watched a 30-minute Christian video "The Soul Shepherd" on Youtube, to better understand what Jesus means with many references to us as sheep and him as the Good Shepherd. This ties in to two VICs (very important chapters) they learned for today, Psalm 23--the Shepherd Psalm, and John 10--Jesus the Good Shepherd.  Whenever a bible verse was placed on screen in the video, I had students taking turns reading a verse.  If a child missed today, I suggest a parent have their child read the verses or take turns with him reading a verse as the video shows it. It helps keep the children engaged. The video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STAda5RFrxM&t=911s

Memory work for next week:

Memory Work for Grades 5 & 6 for April 24, 2024

1 Peter 5:8  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Romans 3:23  All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 5:19 Through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

8th Grade

What is Confession?

Confession has two parts.  The one is that we confess our sins; the other, that we receive absolution or forgiveness from the pastor as from God himself, not doubting but firmly believing that our sins are thus forgiven before God in heaven.

Psalm 51:5  Surely I have been a sinner from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
